Born in Nado, Nigeria, he attended several Christian secondary schools before earning his L.L.B. (law degree) with honors from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).
Entering military life, he earned another bachelor degree (B.Sc.) in war studies.  By the time he retired he would achieve the rank of Brigadier General.  In retirement, he wrote, published, and practiced law.
